A Blood Test Can Now Estimate the Biological Age of 11 Separate Organs

A Stanford Medicine-led team analyzed blood-protein levels from more than 44,000 adults ages 40–70 to estimate the biological age of 11 separate organ systems, including the brain, heart and kidneys. People with an organ scored as extremely aged had substantially higher risk of disease and death tied to that organ over up to 17 years of follow-up — brain biological age was the single strongest predictor of both Alzheimer's disease and overall mortality. The test is currently used for research only; Stanford has stated commercial availability is still an estimated two to three years away.
